It’s Everton meet Liverpool at Goodison Park in 6th round of Premier League on Saturday 2 September..

The first Merseyside derby of the 2022–23 season will take place on Saturday when Everton hosts Liverpool at Goodison Park.

The Toffees enter the game without a victory after five Premier League games this season, while Liverpool has won two straight games after rescuing a last-second victory over Newcastle United on Wednesday night.

Although neither Merseyside powerhouse has had a particularly strong start, after just five games they are now separated in the Premier League table by five points and 11 positions.

Liverpool has now recovered from losing all three of their initial Premier League games by winning their last two, albeit in very different ways.

Any hopes that Jurgen Klopp’s team would immediately return to their free-flowing best on a regular basis after the record-equaling 9-0 humiliation of Bournemouth last weekend were quickly dashed during Wednesday night’s match against Newcastle at Anfield, where the visitors took the lead through debutant Alexander Isak and had another goal disallowed by the slightest of offsides.

Fabio Carvalho stole all three points with practically the final kick of the game, but the Reds rallied to win in the most spectacular fashion. Roberto Firmino first tied the score for the Reds before Fabio Carvalho did the same for the visitors.

After a game in which he was obviously annoyed by the Magpies’ time-wasting, Klopp’s victory seemed momentous even after only five games of the season due to Newcastle’s displeasure at the 98th-minute winner – when only five minutes of injury time had been signaled.

Even though Liverpool still has a lot of ground to make up to the leaders, the situation currently is far better than it would have been had they dropped points for the fourth time in their first five games. A draw would have put Liverpool nine points behind Arsenal and seven behind Manchester City.

However, there is still much room for improvement, and Klopp will continue to struggle with Liverpool’s tendency to give up the opening goal, which has already happened in eight of their previous nine league games.

Eight of the last 11 games at Goodison Park have resulted in a split of the points, despite the fact that Liverpool did win this match 4-1 last season and might now record back-to-back victories across Stanley Park for the first time since 2009.

Jordan Henderson, the captain of Liverpool, left the game against Newcastle hobbling due to a hamstring problem.

Although the extent of the issue has not yet been determined, it was judged significant enough for Liverpool to borrow Juventus’ Arthur Melo on transfer deadline day.

Henderson is unlikely to play against Stamford Bridge, although Arthur is thought to be prepared to play if necessary despite his recent lack of playing time, should the necessary paperwork is submitted on time.

Although Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita are still out injured, Klopp is unlikely to start the Brazilian in the middle of the field.

Following a three-match suspension, Darwin Nunez will be available for Liverpool. However, with Roberto Firmino in excellent form and the intense atmosphere of a derby, Klopp may decide to sideline his star summer acquisition.

Diogo Jota, who is getting closer to returning from injury, has a remote chance of participating in some form, but Ibrahima Konate, Calvin Ramsay, and Caoimhin Kelleher are all still injured.

However, Joel Matip and Curtis Jones, who were both on the bench during midweek, might participate this weekend.

Harvey Elliott is also anticipated to keep his spot after being hailed by Klopp as the “best player on the park” during the Newcastle victory, so Carvalho will be hoping that his late-week heroics are enough to secure him a starting position.

Three of Mohamed Salah’s goals against Everton have occurred at Goodison Park. If he scores again this weekend, he would tie Michael Owen for the most away goals in the Premier League versus Everton.

Away team: Liverpool (Last 10 games in new season: 5-2-3 Scored 25 goals and conceded 11 goals)

Everton has recently, however, struggled to win games, drawing consecutive 1-1 draws with Nottingham Forest, Brentford, and Leeds United under Frank Lampard.

The Toffees also have injury issues, so this game will come too soon for Calvert-Lewin to recover from a knee condition.

Even though Lampard was able to add a few players on the final day of the transfer window, Yerry Mina, Ben Godfrey, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Mason Holgate, and Andros Townsend are still out.

Idrissa Gueye, who joined the team from Paris Saint-Germain, and James Garner, who came for £15 million from Manchester United, might both make their debuts if the necessary paperwork is filed in a timely manner.

Neal Maupay’s paperwork prevented him from making his club debut during the midweek draw at Leeds, but this weekend, more than a week after joining from Brighton & Hove Albion, he may finally make his debut.

Liverpool 2-0 Everton 24/04/2022 Premier League

Everton 1-4 Liverpool 02/12/2021 Premier League

Liverpool 0-2 Everton 21/02/2021 Premier League

Everton 2-2 Liverpool 17/10/2020 Premier League

Everton 0-0 Liverpool 22/06/2020 Premier League

Liverpool 1-0 Everton 06/01/2020 FA Cup

Analytics:

Although Liverpool will enter this match as the favorites, they haven’t exactly been convincing thus far this year, and Everton will feel confident about their prospects of pulling off an upset with a boisterous home crowd behind them.

The outcome could depend on whether club scores first, and if Liverpool continue their current trend of giving up the first goal, it will be detrimental to them.

Over the years, derby draws have been frequent at Goodison, and we anticipate another this weekend, which would make it the match with the second-most draws in Premier League history.
