Maccabi Haifa will host the first leg of their Champions League qualification against Cypriot side Apollon Limassol in the third round. Maccabi Haifa are an Israeli team who has been absent from the Champions League for over a decade, but has regained top-level competitiveness in the last two years and have won the league for two consecutive seasons.

Their opponents, Apollon Limassol, is competitive in the Cypriot league, but they only won the league in a rare run last season and the Champions League qualification is still a new competition for them.
