It’s Manchester United meet Liverpool at Old Trafford in 2022/23 Premier League on Monday 22 August.

Manchester United will host arch rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday night in what is perhaps the greatest game on the English football schedule.

Man United is presently last in the Premier League after losing their first two games to Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion, while Liverpool, who finished second last season, is 12th after drawing their opening two matches against Fulham and Crystal Palace.

Given that Darwin Nunez received a red card against Patrick Vieira’s team and is now ineligible to go to Old Trafford, the Reds must take extra precautions to prevent Man City from gaining an early and substantial advantage.

After this match, Klopp’s team plays at home against Bournemouth and Newcastle United back-to-back times before traveling to Goodison Park to face Everton in the Merseyside derby.

The gap between Liverpool and Man City in the Premier League last season was just one point, and they also won the FA Cup and EFL Cup doubles, defeating Chelsea in both finals.

The odds lead to a Liverpool victory on Monday, but there are certain unique aspects of the game that will offer Man United optimism.

While the Red Devils are scrambling around for new signings late in the window, Liverpool’s business is seemingly complete, with Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay arriving this summer; there has been talk of a new midfielder arriving, but the Merseyside giants are allegedly prepared to wait until next year to sign leading target Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.
