It’s Sevilla meet Valladolid at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium in 2022/23 La Liga on Friday 19 August.
In the second round of La Liga games on Friday, Sevilla will visit Real Valladolid in an effort to get over its devastating opening-day loss.
Last weekend, Julen Lopetegui’s team suffered a defeat to Osasuna, while their guests were defeated by Villarreal upon their return to Spain’s top division.
Home team: Sevilla (Last 7 games in new season: 3-1-3 Scored 10 goals and conceded 11 goals)
Sevilla completed the previous season on a negative note, eventually finishing fourth after maintaining a title challenge for the most of the campaign, just somewhat trailing Real Madrid.
Los Hispalenses were, at least, able to maintain their position in the top four and secure a place in the upcoming Champions League group stage as they finished a point behind third-placed Atletico Madrid and three behind second-placed Barcelona, despite also losing out on a spot in the Europa League in the round of 16.
Before the new season began, they had a mixed preseason, drawing with Sporting Lisbon and Tottenham Hotspur, winning over Angers and Cadiz, losing to Leicester City, and taking a 6-0 defeat at the hands of Arsenal in the Emirates Cup final.
Last Friday, Sevilla traveled to Osasuna to begin their league campaign. Rafa Mir swiftly pulled Sevilla level following Ezequiel Avila’s early goal, but the hosts went on to win all three points in the 74th minute when Aimar Oroz converted a penalty.
Lopetegui’s side will be anxious to get their first points on the board on Friday and start a good run of form since they have their sights set on pushing at the top end of the table once more this season.
Suso and Munir El-Haddadi, who were injured and missed Sevilla’s opening-day match against Osasuna, are likely to stay out, and Karim Rekik and Nemanja Gudelj will play in the middle of the back four now that Diego Carlos and Jules Kounde have both left the team.
Rafa Mir was chosen over Youssef En-Nesyri at the top of the pitch last time, but Lopetegui still has options. Jesus Corona, Lucas Ocampos, Alejandro Gomez, and Erik Lamela are all pushing to play behind a lone striker.
In lieu of Marcos Acuna, left-back Alex Telles, on loan from Manchester United, will look to make his first competitive start. Joan Jordan and Ivan Rakitic are also competing for a spot in the starting lineup after Fernando and Thomas Delaney were used as reserve players against Osasuna.
Away team: Valladolid (Last 8 games in new season: 3-4-1 Scored 6 goals and conceded 5 goals)
They welcome Real Valladolid, who are also seeking their first points after being promoted back to the top division and are facing a challenging opening schedule.
The Blanquivioletas kept themselves in the promotion race throughout the previous season, but they appeared confined to the playoffs with only four games remaining and a five-point gap to bridge to the top two after exiting La Liga in the 2020–21 season.
On the final day, though, Pacheta’s team managed to squeak into the automatic promotion slots by defeating Huesca 3-0 in the decisive match to make it four straight victories. At the Estadio Jose Zorrilla, goals were scored by Shon Weissman, Gonzalo Plata, and Alvaro Aguado.
The Blanquivioletas started the La Liga season against Villarreal after a successful preseason that included a win on penalties and a draw with Lazio. After Pacheta’s team kept the game scoreless in the first half, the visitors eventually took the lead through Nicolas Jackson, and Alex Baena sealed the victory with a late brace.
Real Valladolid will be eager to quickly build up their point total in order to avoid falling further and further behind at the bottom of the table as the league continues, but they face another difficult test away at the top-four contenders. Real Valladolid is hoping to establish themselves in the top flight in the upcoming seasons.
Star forward Shon Weissman, who scored 20 league goals last season and is still recovering from an injury, should be the only Real Valladolid player unavailable.
Thus, Toni Villa and Gonzalo Plata will once more play on the wings, with Sergio Leon likely to maintain his position up front.
Sergio Asenjo, a 33-year-old goalkeeper from Villarreal, was added to Pacheta’s roster over the summer, giving it more La Liga experience. The defender Sergio Escudero also joined to boost the defense, and he will face the team he played 176 times for between 2015 and 2021.
History: (Both teams didn’t battle with each other many times)
Valladolid 1-1 Sevilla 21/03/2021 La Liga
Sevilla 1-1 Valladolid 20/12/2020 La Liga
Sevilla 1-1 Valladolid 27/06/2020 La Liga
Valladolid 0-1 Sevilla 25/11/2019 La Liga
Valladolid 0-2 Sevilla 07/04/2019 La Liga
Sevilla 1-0 Valladolid 25/11/2018 La Liga
Analytics:
Even if their new-look defense is still a little wobbly, Lopetegui’s team should be too good for the newly promoted team. They will be desperate to avenge their opening-day loss.
I believe the predictions are gonna be miserable, and that’s why we offer different predictions, but don’t worry, we just offer 1 prediction on 1 aspect, like over 2.5 OR under 2.5, we don’t offer under 2.5 AND over 2.5, no.
