Hungary set for fairy-tale ending?
When Hungary was placed in a group featuring England, Germany, and Italy, few people gave them much hope. However, just like at UEFA EURO 2020, they have come out fighting. In reality, Hungary has overturned the apple cart this time and gobbled up the bounty, just like they did in England last summer. The Magyarok have victories over England (2) and Germany, putting them two points ahead of opponents Italy going into the last game.
Coach Marco Rossi, who will face off against his countrymen in Budapest on Monday, said that against Italy, a meaningful game for him personally, “we can crown our performance.” “We are pleased to have ten points from five games; nobody thought we could do it,” the team said. The captain’s international career will come to a dream finish with one more win, and they will advance to the finals.
England eager to sign off on high
Italy and Hungary won’t be competing in this winter’s FIFA World Cup, but England and Germany will, and both teams are eager to end disappointing UEFA Nations League campaigns on a high note. The need is higher for England because they were demoted to League B after going five games without a victory and scored just one goal. This was their worst stretch since 2014.
Declan Rice, a midfielder, adds, “It’s not that we aren’t creating chances. “Goals for training are to have fun. We’re going to be fine, I promise.” Though actions speak louder than words, the image of slumped England players on the field following Friday’s loss in Italy gave an indication as to the severity of their unhappiness. But nothing can dispel the melancholy like a win over an old foe like Germany.
Elsewhere on Thursday
Both Finland and Romania are in danger of dropping to League C. Bosnia and Herzegovina won Group B3 and Romania is hosting them knowing they must outperform whatever Finland does away in Montenegro to move ahead of them into third place.
San Marino has consistently displayed strong defensive play in the UEFA Nations League, although they have yet to score after seven games across two campaigns. Will Fabrizio Costantini break free against Group D2 champion Estonia with nothing but dignity on the line?
