After tying the score against Crystal Palace, Erling Haaland celebrates.
Man City 4-2 Crystal Palace: Erling Haaland hat-trick inspires ruthless comeback in Premier League thriller
After falling behind 2-0 at the break, Manchester City mounted a merciless comeback to defeat Crystal Palace 4-2 in the Premier League. Erling Haaland scored a hat-trick in just 19 minutes.
Prior to this past Saturday, Man City had never recovered from a 2-0 deficit at the half to win in the Premier League, but as has been the case in the most of Pep Guardiola’s matches, a little bit of the past was never going to stop them as they destroyed Crystal Palace in the second half.
In the 53rd minute, Bernardo Silva, who is reportedly being pursued by Barcelona in a deal, got things moving. Silva received a ball from Rodri that was blasted to the right wing, drove along the top of the box, and then fired a low shot past Vicente Guaita.
Haaland equalized with his first of three goals nine minutes later. The striker nodded in a beautiful, curving pass from Phil Foden, thrilling the crowd as he sprinted back for the second half.
His second objective was typical of a poacher. Stones was in the middle after Silva’s pass, but he missed with a shot that appeared to be going wide. Haaland, however, was waiting at the back post to score as Man City took the lead for the first time.
The hat-trick appeared to be coming at that time, and Haaland finished it in the 81st minute. Plenty of room was provided for Ilkay Gundogan to advance down the middle of the field before slipping his teammate in. Joel Ward was behind Haaland, who easily picked up the ball and held off the defender before scoring.
At the age of 22, he scored his 13th hat-trick in total, helping Man City maintain their perfect record.
In their match against Bournemouth, Liverpool teammates celebrate Roberto Firmino’s second goal.
Liverpool 9-0 Bournemouth: Rampant Reds equal Premier League record win
Liverpool got their season off and running in devastating fashion, equalling the Premier League’s biggest victory with a 9-0 demolition of Bournemouth at Anfield.
The previous visiting Premier League manager to triumph at Anfield was Scott Parker when in charge of Fulham, but there would be no repeat as Liverpool stormed out of the gates to put an end to their Old Trafford misery.
After Elliott’s venomous first Premier League goal on minute six, Diaz’s wonderful header back across goal opened the floodgates, and on minute 28 Alexander-Arnold rifled home from 25 yards to further underline Liverpool’s dominance.
After assisting on Liverpool’s first three goals, Firmino snuck into the Bournemouth area to make it four, his first league goal at Anfield since December 2020, and then Van Dijk powered home to make it five goals for Liverpool in the first half of a Premier League game for the first time.
Within seconds after the restart, Mepham’s own goal added salt to Bournemouth’s wounds, and the onslaught continued when Firmino added his second in front of the Kop. Firmino then left the field to a standing ovation from the Anfield crowd.
For the first time since their thumping of Crystal Palace in 1989, Liverpool scored nine goals in a top-flight game. Carvalho joined in on the fun, and Diaz converted his second goal, but cries for a tenth goal from the raucous Anfield fans went unanswered.

Chelsea 2-1 Leicester: Raheem Sterling scores twice and Conor Gallagher sent off as Blues beat Foxes
With a masterful second-half effort that propelled the 10-man Blues to victory over Leicester at home, Raheem Sterling launched his Chelsea career.
Both teams entered the game coming off of disappointing losses the weekend before, and Thomas Tuchel, who was compelled to watch from the stands due to his touchline ban, adjusted his formation, if not the players within it, in response.
However, those carefully crafted preparations appeared to be in jeopardy when Conor Gallagher was dismissed after less than 30 minutes for improperly stopping two Leicester counterattacks.
Although Harvey Barnes promptly responded for the Foxes, Sterling’s first and second goals for Chelsea helped calm a jittery Stamford Bridge. As a result, the home team was able to hold on and go back into the top half of the Premier League.
Kenny Tete presses Gabriel Martinelli as he attempts to transfer the ball.
Arsenal 2-1 Fulham: Gabriel Magalhaes atones for earlier error as late strike seals victory for Gunners
Mikel Arteta praised Arsenal’s “belief” in overcoming hardship after Gabriel Magalhaes scored the game-winning goal in injury time as they rallied from a goal behind to defeat Fulham 2-1 and keep their perfect record.
Aleksandar Mitrovic gave the visitors the lead against the flow of play after Gabriel was fouled on the edge of his own area in Fulham’s opening goal (56).
However, after the superb Martin Odegaard had equalized for the Gunners with a deflected shot off of Bukayo Saka’s pass (64), the Arsenal center-back poked home from a short distance when former Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno mishandled a corner (85).
For the first time since February, Manchester United has won back-to-back Premier League games.
Southampton 0-1 Manchester United: Bruno Fernandes’ fine volley gives Erik ten Hag first away win
The difference in Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over Southampton at St. Mary’s came from Bruno Fernandes’ excellent volley, giving Erik ten Hag his first away victory as manager.
After being humiliated 4-0 at Brentford two weeks prior, United bounced back with a superb home win against rivals Liverpool on Monday night, and they were hoping to build on that momentum this weekend in the warm weather on the south coast.
After a level first half, United took control 10 minutes into the second half, and Fernandes’ stunning strike on Diogo Dalot’s cross (55) gave the visitors their first back-to-back victories since February.
Saint-Maximin rejoices following his outstanding equalizer.
