Gregg Berhalter’s approach and tactics

The former defender plays a daring 4-3-3 formation. Sergino Dest, Antonee Robinson, and Weston McKennie are encouraged to attack, and Yunus Musah, in particular, moves forward from midfield, putting a lot of pressure on Tyler Adams to defend the center-backs.

“It’s like having two players in one,”said Berhalter of his right-back. “He can defend. His attacking play is unreal.” So unreal that no less an authority than Xavi described it as “spectacularly good”.

Dest, who left Barcelona to sign for AC Milan on loan for the 2022–2023 campaign, stated: “I need to get minutes for the World Cup. I need to play.”

The talent, who was born in the Netherlands, can hit the ball far and with great skill, making him a real outlet down the right.

Bert Patenaude, who scored the first hat-trick in the history of the tournament, propelled the US to the semifinals of the inaugural World Cup before it pulled off one of the biggest upsets in its history, a 1-0 victory over England in 1950 known as “The Miracle of Belo Horizonte.”

Beginning in 1990, the USA took part in seven consecutive tournaments, hosting in 1994, again in 2010, and again in 2014. The Stars and Stripes’ best season, however, came in 2002, when they defeated Mexico 2-0 to go to the quarterfinals, where they gave Germany a real scare before falling to them 1-0.

The United States will participate in the World Cup again after unexpectedly being excluded from Russia 2018.
